One of my favorite ways to teach math is with games. I am constantly on the look out for new games to use with my students - sometimes my discoveries ROCK and sometimes they don't. But just because a game wasn't a hit with me, or a student, doesn't mean it's not good. So I have a giant collection of games of all types - and just in case you didn't know - you are more than welcome to come check them out. (Both visually and physically.) Just like my books, you are also welcome to borrow games.
One word of warning though ... I do tend to play fast and loose with rules. I have been known to tweak, change, add to, adjust the rules to make a game fit a situation. I highly suggest doing the same :)
A few of my constant favorites are Math Dice Jr., 4-Way Count Down, BLINK, ZooLogic, and Pig Ten. These and more can be found on my game page.
While I am unable to attend, I hope that you are able to go to QAE's Game Night this Thursday. It should be a blast of an event - including a few 4th and 5th grade game makers sharing their personal creations!
Another event happening soon is the Book Fair. It will be going on all next week with the 2nd Annual Book-o-Rama happening on Wednesday, April 5th. After my last post I was contacted by two parents asking to borrow some of the books that I showcased. I was so excited about this! I LOVE LOVE LOVE sharing the books, tools, games, etc... that I spend way too much time and money collecting - so PLEASE keep coming and borrowing! I do have a page of books as well, but it is in need of an update.
So between the Book Fair and parent requests, I started thinking about an organization that recognizes math books for kids every year.
It's called Mathical - Books for Kids from Tots to Teens.
This year's winners have not yet been announced, but the top 3 from last year were:

None of which I have - time to go shopping! I can't wait to see the titles of this year's winners.
