Apps I like ...
This list is comprised primarily of math apps. Some work on both a phone and a tablet, others are tablet only.
All have passed my "high level of quality control" - based purely on personal taste. I look for apps that have a focused intent, are easy to use, are adaptable to the user or users, and aren't too busy. Every child is different, so what one might enjoy, another won't. Hopefully the information I've put together here will be of some use, or at least point you in the right direction!
Keep checking back, as I will be adding new apps as I find them.

Math Slide: (tens & ones), (hundreds, tens & ones), (addition & subtraction)
by Math Adventures

I LOVE these apps! Kids gain number sense when they are able recognize numbers in a variety of ways. These apps do that. They also offer a variety of levels, and you can play with just 1 person or up to 4. I currently only have the free versions, which so far are sufficient.

Long Division Touch
by Regular Berry Software LLC
FREE or $.99
I teach division in what is now referred to as the "traditional method". Meaning, the long division algorithm that you most likely learned when you were in school. That's what this app is designed for. I have the free version, so can't speak to what the $.99 version offers. This is not a game-based app. It is a tool for learning the steps for doing long division, and for practicing those steps.

Quick Math - Multiplication Table & Arithmetic Game
by Shiny Things
$1.99
This is one of my most favorite apps. Fact fluency is an important building block to mathematical success. Quick Math offers a less stressful mode of practice where students can also track their progress. Instead of seeing how many problems you can correctly answer in 2 minutes, Quick Math gives you a set number of problems and measures how long it takes you to answer that same number of problems during each session. At the end of your session, you are shown a graph of your progress for each day. This app has multiple levels of difficulty, as well as the option of having multiple accounts for more than one user. The other piece that I appreciate, is that you can write your answer directly on the screen - no need to find and then click on a number.

Number Bonds: Multiplication & Division AND Addition & Subtraction to 99
by Staff Development for Educators
$1.99 ea
I am LOVING these apps and totally think they are worth the $1.99. The games are fun, cute, and range in difficulty. You also have the option of setting the pace if you want timed practice, or having un-timed play. The fact that they are aligned to our current instruction (number bonds, fact families, bar models, and missing numbers) is a bonus.

Math Vs Zombies - Math Games, Grade K-5

Normally I do not go for this type of game based math app - I am thinking I must have downloaded it when it was free. That being said, it is actually fairly simple to use, not busy, and fun. I played it with a 1st grader and she had a blast!

Dragon Shapes - Lumio Geometry Challenge
by Lighthouse Learning

There are other Tangram apps out there, but I purchased this a few years ago. I still love it, think it does exactly what it is meant to, and kids have fun using it. I had the free version for a long time until one of my students became so enamored with it, that I bought the full version. I've never been sorry to have done so.

FREE or the 5+ version is $4.99; the 12+ version is $7.99
Introduces algebra at an early age. I only have the free version, which I played around with just a little. I can totally understand why there is so much buzz around Dragon Box. However, I would recommend checking it out before purchasing.
